Our Teachers

    Christiane Karam

    Christiane Karam earned her first Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics as well as a Certificate in Psychology, in her native Beirut, Lebanon.

    A classically trained pianist and an active music teacher/writer/performer, she moved to Boston in 1998 where she attended Berklee College of Music and was awarded a scholarship. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2003, majoring in Film Scoring and Songwriting. She won First Prize in the USA Songwriting Competition World Music Category in 2001, for her song "I'm Alive, and Honorable Mention in 2002 for her song "Breathe," which was released on Heavy Rotation records in February 2004. While at Berklee, she received a Recognition Award for her "Contribution to International Goodwill and Understanding" in March 2001, and the SESAC award in March 2002.

    Christiane also studied jazz at Berklee where she focused on her voice. She specializes in Middle Eastern Music and leads the Zilzala ensemble in Boston. She is currently attending New England Conservatory for a Masters in Contemporary Improvisation. In her teaching, Christiane focuses primarily on individuality and participation. She teaches piano, voice, percussion, composition and theory, as well as Middle Eastern vocal technique and theory.
