In order for websites to be "on the internet" they must exist on a computer that is hard-wired to the internet 24 hours a day. These computers are called "servers" or "hosts". Companies who own these computers rent hard-disk space for a monthly fee, so that people can use them to host their websites. These monthly fees vary greatly, depending on the level of features you want for your website (ie. traffic analysis, CGI forms, Secured Server Transactions, etc.) and the stability and speed of their computers and connections to the Internet.

Establishing Your Web Address
There are basically two ways to define web addresses.

The first and most advantageous choice of addresses is to have your own domain name (www.yourcompany.com). This option involves a $35 a year fee to Internic ($70 down for the first two years). The hosting charges are also a bit more expensive. This is assuming that your company name is still available and not used by someone else. If your company name is not available, it is possible to find some creative alternative domain name to represent your company.

A Second Option is the most inexpensive. Your website address would be much longer (www.irnoise.com/yourcompany/). This would give you a basic web presence and the hosting charges would be minimal.
